The Problem
I'd been talking about moving for three years. My apartment was fine — decent size, good location — but I'd outgrown it. The problem wasn't finding a new place; it was mustering the energy to actually do it. Every weekend I'd browse listings, save a few, then talk myself out of scheduling viewings. The inertia was real.
What They Tried
A friend suggested I hang a photo of my future home in the 'helpful people' area of my bedroom. I'm a realtor, so I'm skeptical of anything that isn't square footage and school districts. But I was desperate. I printed a picture of a light-filled bungalow with a porch — the kind of place I actually wanted — and tacked it to the wall near my bed. Then I put a small box labeled 'MOVE' next to it, with a note of my target address.
What Happened
Within two weeks, I'd scheduled three viewings. Within a month, I'd made an offer. I won't say the photo magically found me a house, but it kept the goal in my face. Every morning, I saw that porch. It shifted something in my brain — from 'someday' to 'now'. I closed six weeks later.

2. About the Source
Feng shui para Occidente by Terah Kathryn Collins · United States · 1995
Feng Shui for the West is a practical guide that adapts classical Chinese spatial principles for modern Western homes and lifestyles. Written by one of the first American authors to bring Feng Shui to a mainstream English-speaking audience, the book translates ancient Bagua concepts into actionable room-by-room advice using familiar Western design language and contemporary case examples.
3. How This Principle Applies to This Case
This case illustrates the principle of using visual cues to align intention with action. The classical text suggests placing images of a future home in a specific bagua sector to build momentum for a move. Modern psychology calls this implementation intention: a visual trigger reduces cognitive load and keeps a goal salient. By externalizing the desired outcome, the agent bypassed procrastination and moved from vague wanting to concrete planning.
