命卦与宅卦匹配原则
The four directions Kan, Li, Zhen, and Xun form the eastern group of houses, born from lesser yang and lesser yin. They combine middle and eldest children, representing family. The four directions Qian, Kun, Gen, and Dui form the western group, born from greater yang and greater yin. They combine parents and youngest children, also representing family.

The Greedy Wolf star brings good fortune when placed in the east, southeast, north, or south—these are its proper positions. It then promotes scholarly success, wealth, and many descendants. The Wu Qu star is favorable when located in the northwest, west, southwest, or northeast, symbolizing military authority and heroic leadership. In the south, it brings internal conflict; in the east or southeast, external strife, reducing its fortune. When placed in the "Long Life" direction, it grants four sons, moderate wealth, longevity, daily financial gain, marital harmony, early marriage, and thriving family and livestock. This direction's benefits peak in years of the Metal element. It also promotes health and long life.

The Assistant Star is favorable when placed in the Li, Kan, Zhen, or Xun positions, bringing good fortune. In Qian or Dui, it creates internal conflict and is unlucky. In Kun or Gen, it causes external struggle, reducing its benefit. The Fu position brings moderate wealth and lifespan, with more females than males. Its luck appears in Hai, Mao, or Wei years. A stove placed in the Fu position brings desired outcomes.

The Nine Stars arise from interactions between hexagrams, meaning they come from hexagram transformations. Thus, hexagrams relate through generative principles and the Five Elements' cycles of creation and destruction, producing auspicious or inauspicious effects. Among the Nine Stars, Greedy Wolf, Giant Gate, Martial Melody, and Assistant Supporter are auspicious. Broken Army, Chaste Virgin, Salary Storage, and Literary Melody are inauspicious.

In residential spatial design, location and orientation are two separate factors. Sometimes the room position matters, other times the direction. For example, a door may be placed in the northwest sector but face north, west, or southwest. This is a mnemonic for a palm-mapping method used in traditional Chinese residential design. It assigns eight trigrams to positions on the hand: Li, Xun, Kun, Dui, Qian, Gen, Kan, Zhen. The pattern moves in pairs: Qian and Dui rise together, Zhen and Li exchange, Kun and Gen rise, Kan and Xun exchange. Movement starts and stops at edges, center, top, or bottom.
