The Problem
As a real estate agent, I spend a lot of time in other people's homes. I started noticing that houses where the owners had clear, positive statements about their work—on a desk, a bulletin board, even the fridge—tended to feel more purposeful. And oddly, those homes often sold quicker. Meanwhile, my own home office was a mess of unopened mail and random papers. I was stressed, distracted, and my business had plateaued.
What They Tried
I decided to test the idea. I cleared off my desk completely, then wrote a simple affirmation on a sticky note: 'I attract ideal clients and close with ease.' I placed it on the corner of my monitor where I'd see it every day. I also put a small framed quote about perseverance on the shelf behind my desk. I didn't tell anyone—it felt a little silly.
What Happened
Within a week, I found myself being more proactive with follow-ups. By the end of the month, I had signed two new clients—both from referrals I hadn't expected. My desk stayed cleaner, and I felt less scattered. It wasn't magic, but the note was a constant reminder of the mindset I wanted to bring to my work.

2. About the Source
Feng shui para Occidente by Terah Kathryn Collins · United States · 1995
Feng Shui for the West is a practical guide that adapts classical Chinese spatial principles for modern Western homes and lifestyles. Written by one of the first American authors to bring Feng Shui to a mainstream English-speaking audience, the book translates ancient Bagua concepts into actionable room-by-room advice using familiar Western design language and contemporary case examples.
3. How This Principle Applies to This Case
This case illustrates the classical principle of placing career affirmations in the professional zone. The text suggests that writing and displaying positive statements can reinforce a desired mindset. Modern psychology supports this through the concept of priming: subtle environmental cues influence our thoughts and behaviors. By placing the affirmation in a visible spot, the agent constantly reminded herself of her goals, which likely increased her motivation and focus. The act of clearing the desk also reduced visual clutter, further supporting concentration. The principle is not about magic but about creating an environment that aligns with one's intentions.
